The unique design and aerodynamic shape of the SBS Tipping Bucket precipitation sensor increases measurement accuracy by capturing more rainfall than traditionally shaped cylindrical gauges. The SBS is precision-engineered to minimise out-splash and reduce rainfall losses caused by evaporation. The depth, diameter, and angle of the funnel have all been extensively tested and researched to give the optimum accuracy in the field. The SBS314 is ideal for heavy rainfall regions, the SBS500 is favoured in a mixed climate such as Europe and the SBS1000 is particularly good in low, light rain areas. T
The coated aluminium design means that the SBS can be installed in extremely hostile conditions. A version with internal heaters is also available for cold climate installations (contact EML for more information). The internal of the funnel has been precision glass bead shot-blasted to help the breaking of the surface tension of the raindrops.
Quality is assured because the gauge is manufactured and assembled by EML in the UK. The SBS is a robust and versatile instrument and is compatible with all modern data loggers and event recorders.
