Vertically operated oceanographic dual net

The CalVET Net, also called the Pairovet Net, is based on a California Cooperative Oceanic Fisheries Investigations (CalCOFI) design to sample complete water columns. It is available in four sizes.

Similar to its horizontally or obliquely operated counterpart the CalVET Net’s major advantages are in the dual layout: Allowing to perform two sampling processes (of identical or differing mesh sizes) at the same time. And the absence of bridles, avoiding disturbances otherwise usually caused by them.

Use of a leading weight is recommended to stretch the net as well as to increase lowering speed.
Please note that suitable 30 kg leading weights are sold separately.

The net supports two forward-counting-only (i.e. not during descent) Mechanical Flow Meters (optional), one placed into each centre of the inlet apertures measuring the respective water volumes filtered.

For easy retrieval the samples are concentrated inside of two rigid PVC buckets featuring an integrated window covered with corresponding mesh fabric. The buckets are attached to the net bags by three quickly released over-centre fasteners each.

The standard mesh size of a CalVET Net is 500 µm for both net bags, available mesh sizes range from 100 µm to 1,000 µm
